Review: Lunch at the Ale & Compass, Disney’s Yacht Club resort

The Boston Cream Pie at Disney's Yacht Club

Tucked inside the elegant Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, just a short stroll from Epcot’s International Gateway and a quick boat ride from Hollywood Studios, Ale & Compass is a hidden gem for those looking to take a break from the parks without sacrificing quality.

Although the name makes it sound like a seaside pub, it is – in fact – a hotel restaurant, the interior a dim, formal space, located near the resort’s reception.

Disney's Yacht Club

The Yacht Club is one of Disney’s most beautiful resorts, with its pretty New England-style clapboard, and the Ale and Compass certainly doesn’t make the most of its breathtaking lakeside views. On our visit it also felt a little quiet with only one other table occupied. But the calm atmosphere gave us a chance to relax and really enjoy our meal – and what a tasty meal it was!

For fans of British-style gastro pub fare, the menu here feels familiar. Classic dishes like jumbo crab cakes, smoked salmon flatbreads with crispy capers, cheddar burgers with bacon and tomato and traditional fish and chips are all beautifully executed. The service is warm, polite, and attentive without ever feeling intrusive. You can check out the entire menu on the Disney website – just adjust the tab to select breakfast, lunch or dinner.

What did we eat?

Eggs Benedict at the Ale and Compass

We opted for the Crab Cake Benedict ($19) for lunch, which came with perfectly poached eggs, rocket, and a lemon-herb hollandaise sitting on top of English muffins. The yolks drizzled over the sweet crab cakes, making each bite rich and flavourful, while a side of crispy herb-roasted potatoes completed the dish. It was filling but not overly heavy – an ideal midday meal.

My son chose the Fish and Chips ($20), which were exceptional. The fish was light and flaky with a perfectly crispy batter – far superior to the heavier, thick batter at Epcot’s Rose & Crown Pub at the UK pavilion. For more on the Rose and Crown, read our review of how it fell flat as a dining destination. The waffle-style fries – although non-traditional for fish and chips – were homemade and paired beautifully with a lemon-caper tartar sauce. Honestly, this was the best fish and chips we had at Disney. Disappointingly, they don’t serve this meal at dinner time – you’ll need to book for lunch if you want to try it.

For dessert, we shared the Boston Cream Pie ($10) – a vanilla sponge mousse cake with chocolate glaze, raspberry sauce, and tiny white chocolate fragments. It was indulgent but not overwhelming, the perfect sweet ending to our lunch.

💸 Was it good value?

Pricing during lunch felt very reasonable. Our meal with drinks came to less than $60 – excellent value compared to park dining (the Rose & Crown fish and chips, for reference, is $32 and, while there are better views by the Epcot lake, the meal itself is far less satisfying.) If you have a table service Dining Plan, a meal here is one credit. If you’re not sure about the value of Disney Dining Plans, our guide can talk you through them.

Our final thoughts

Disney's Yacht Club - view of lake

Disney visitors often overlook resort dining, opting instead for quick bites in the parks. But they offer a fantastic alternative, often at better value than similar quality park restaurants and with less pressure on tables. With food this good so close to the action, Ale & Compass is a perfect spot to pause, recharge and enjoy a leisurely meal before heading back to the rides.

We left feeling completely satisfied and thrilled to have discovered this spot. It’s a quiet retreat with high-quality, appealing dishes and we will definitely be returning.
