If you’re spending a day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and are in search of a family-friendly meal with a side of fun, Rainforest Café is a fantastic choice.
Conveniently located right outside the entrance gate to the park, it’s easily accessible even if you don’t have a park ticket, making it a great option for those staying nearby or visiting Disney Springs (where the second Rainforest Café is located – complete with a show-stopping erupting volcano).
The atmosphere: Animatronic jungle adventure
The real magic of Rainforest Café lies in its immersive indoors rainforest setting. Diners are surrounded by lush greenery, waterfalls, and animatronic animals – elephants, monkeys, gorillas, and more – that come to life roughly every 20–30 minutes during a simulated tropical thunderstorm.
The lights dim, thunder rumbles, and the jungle awakens – an experience sure to entertain children and adults alike. It’s noisy, it’s theatrical, and it’s full of Disney-style fun.
The menu: Big, bold, and family-friendly

Rainforest Café’s menu is extensive and accessible, offering something for everyone – from burgers and pasta to steak and seafood.
Here’s what we tried during our visit to the Animal Kingdom location:
- Fish & chips (adult menu)
My son loved this classic dish – crispy, golden batter encasing a fresh piece of fish, served with Safari fries and a side of coconut curry tropical slaw. A generous portion and a big hit. - The Beastly burger
My husband tackled this towering double-patty burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. It was hearty and satisfying – definitely a meal for big appetites! - Shrimp sampler platter
I opted for this seafood-lover’s dream, which featured Bourbon BBQ glazed shrimp, Caribbean Coconut Shrimp, Fried Shrimp, Shrimp Scampi, and Island rice. The standout was the coconut shrimp, which came with a sweet, buttery dipping sauce. A delicious and varied main dish.

Prices are typical for Disney dining – expect to pay around $20–$30 per main. While it’s not gourmet, the food is tasty, filling, and reliably prepared, a good balance of comfort and crowd-pleasing.
Location perks
- Animal Kingdom: Just steps from the park entrance. A great option if you want to exit the park for a quieter or more varied meal, or need a break from park food.
- Disney Springs: The second Rainforest Café has an exterior volcano that erupts with fire and smoke throughout the evening – adding even more drama. Note: this rooftop installation is visible from across Disney Springs, so you don’t even need to dine at the restaurant to appreciate it!
Note: Both locations share the same menu and similar décor, so the choice often comes down to location convenience.
A great choice for families

With its themed setting, high-energy atmosphere, and broad menu, Rainforest Café is one of our top picks for families, particularly those with younger children or picky eaters.
In a park like Animal Kingdom, where plainer dining options can be limited, this is a great fallback that still delivers on fun.

So, is Rainforest Café worth it?
Rainforest Café may not offer the most refined cuisine in Walt Disney World, but it excels at themed fun, crowd-pleasing food, and family appeal. Whether you’re escaping the Animal Kingdom heat or looking for a lively dinner at Disney Springs, it’s well worth a visit.
Can you get into Animal Kingdom via the Rainforest Café?
Rainforest Café sits slightly outside the Animal Kingdom and has its own entrance to the park.
This means you can still visit the restaurant, even if you don’t have a park ticket.
If you’re visiting the park, there’s a separate entrance to the Animal Kingdom via the restaurant. This allows guests to enter and exit the park to visit the restaurant. Guests with a valid park ticket can use the dedicated entrance next to the restaurant to walk straight back into Animal Kingdom after their meal, meaning you don’t need to walk all the way around to the main gates.
We used this ourselves when we left the park for lunch at Rainforest Café and were able to return afterwards through the restaurant entrance – a really handy option if you fancy a break from the park without going too far.
Is Rainforest Café at Animal Kingdom on the Disney Dining Plan?
Yes. Rainforest Café at Disney’s Animal Kingdom accepts the Disney Dining Plan.
Guests using the standard Disney Dining Plan can use one Table-Service meal credit for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Unlike some restaurants, you generally order from the regular menu rather than a separate Dining Plan menu.
However, if you’re using the Quick-Service Dining Plan, Rainforest Café is not included, as it’s a Table-Service restaurant.
While it’s not a character meal, it’s beautifully themed and we found it’s a fun way for families to use a Table-Service credit.
What should you eat at Rainforest Café in Animal Kingdom?
The Rainforest Café menu is huge and varied – much more so than the same restaurant at Disneyland Paris – so you should find something for everyone.
There’s a big variety of burgers, steaks, seafood, salads and pasta – and it’s got an ‘all-American’ feel. Portions are big and prices are reasonable.
My son – a very limited eater – enjoyed the fish and chips. The portion was generous and the crispy batter was excellent, making it a solid option if you’re after something familiar.
My husband enjoyed the Beastly Burger – although as it includes two patties for the price of one, it’s quite a sizeable dish!
And I loved the seafood – a crispy platter of fried shrimp with dips.
Vegetarians are also well catered for, with salads, flatbreads and pasta dishes available.
